  • Why are there two ball valves on the VC2G?

    • Recommended best practice when using a VCRT with a vacuum gauge is to add a secondary isolation valve to the side port of the VCRT.  By building the 2nd ball valve into the body of the VC2G, Fieldpiece creates a more securely sealed system and provides more flexibility for end users to customize their service setup.

  • What is the reason for the Comfort Spinner on the capture rod of VC1G/VC2G?

    • A static endcap creates counter-rotation and essentially works “against” the technician’s efforts as they push against the pressurized system. By including a free-spinning, rubberized magnetic cap on the end of the capture rod, a technician can more easily work with two hands to apply linear force to maintain the capture rod position and engagement with the valve core with one hand while using their second hand to rotate the capture rod and thread in or out the valve core.

  • Does Fieldpiece offer repair kits for VCRTs?

    • Fieldpiece’s modular design allows for replacing sub-assemblies to ensure repair success the first time, every time. For example, if the VCRT capture rod assembly gets lost, damaged, or is leaking, we have replacements available. Order RVCRL for the VC1G and VC2G models with a sight glass and RVCRS for the compact VC1 model. Service port gaskets can be easily replaced by either swapping for a new RVC4 or RVC5 fitting or with the RVCG10 replacement gasket kit.

  • Are the VCRTs vacuum-rated?

    • All Fieldpiece VCRTs are vacuum-rated down to 20-microns.

  • How do I identify the 1/4" versus the 5/16” fittings?

    • Both fittings are made of brass for durability. The 5/16” fitting is zinc-plated and looks silver to quickly differentiate it from the yellow brass 1/4″ fitting.

  • Are the 5/16” fittings included with the VCRT?

    • A 1/4″ service port fitting is standard. A 5/16” service port fitting is sold separately.

  • What torque should I apply when swapping between 1/4” and 5/16” service port fittings?

    • The recommended tightening torque range is 20 to 40 in-lbf.

      After removing the installed fitting, inspect the bore hole, clean, and remove any debris. Before attaching the new fitting, inspect the o-ring for any cuts, tears, or damage and replace it with a new o-ring if needed. Five spare o-rings are included in the 1/4” (RVC4) and 5/16” (RVC5) fitting replacement kits. Hand tighten the new fitting so that the nut is flush with the VCRT body. Use an 18mm or adjustable wrench to tighten to 20 to 40 in-lbf for a good seal.

  • How should I store my VCRT?

    • The Fieldpiece VCRTs are designed to easily fit in the Job Link® wireless probe kit bag along with your Job Link®wireless probes or in the zippered pocket of your Fieldpiece SMAN® digital manifold case.

  • What refrigerants are the Fieldpiece VCRTs compatible with?

    • Fieldpiece VCRTs use industry-standard materials proven to be compatible with common residential and commercial A1 and A2L refrigerants (CFC, HCFC, HFC, & HFO), including but not limited to: R-12, R-22, R-32, R-134a, R-404a, R-407a, R-410a, R-454b, R-507, & R-1234yf.

  • Where should I connect my MG44 Vacuum Gauge when using my Fieldpiece VCRTs?

    • Industry best practice is to locate your vacuum gauge at the furthest point from your vacuum pump to ensure the system has fully reached the indicated vacuum level. When connecting the VCRT and a single vacuum hose to the system suction/low side port on the system, the furthest point would typically be at the liquid/high side service port. For faster evacuation on larger systems, two VCRTs and vacuum hoses could be used to connect to both the Suction and Liquid line service ports, in which case, the recommended location for the MG44 vacuum gauge would be the side port of the liquid line VCRT.

  • I’m having difficulty capturing valve cores with my capture rod. Is it a manufacturing issue?

    • Some valve cores have larger heads on their core pins and may be more difficult to capture with the VCRT capture rods.  Following a break-in process for the capture rod can assist in improving the performance of the capture rod for these valve cores.   • What is the warranty policy on the VCRTs?
