Fieldpiece Instruments Introduces Advanced Compact Thermometer – SPK3

ANAHEIM, Calif., September 6, 2013– Fieldpiece Instruments, the industry leader in tools and test instruments for HVACR professionals, announces the availability of a new compact thermometer, the SPK3, designed for quick temperature readings of registers, ducts, and ambient temperatures. The SPK3 combines a 94mm probe to measure in ducts and an IR sensor for quick temperature checks. This compact pocket tool also calculates Delta-T by measuring T1 and T2 from two Rod readings, two IR readings, or one of each.

With the SPK3, HVACR pros can take air temperatures by ‘shooting’ any surface.  The viewing ratio is 8:1 infrared for more accurate measurements. At eight feet away, the tech can get an average temperature of a tight one-foot circle.

The SPK3 Rod temperature probe makes it easy to take in-duct measurements with a piercing tip and rod hook so the SPK3 can hang hands-free from registers and ductwork. Detents lock the probe into place so technicians can open the probe part-way.  The convenient flip display ensures the readings are always facing the correct direction whether the SPK3 is in IR or ROD mode.  And the probe folds into the body for storage and protection.

“This compact powerful tool makes the technician’s job a little easier and faster,” said Russ Harju, Fieldpiece product manager. “The IR and probe temperature combination is a great way for HVACR pros to quickly assess a situation so they can diagnose and fix the system more easily.”

Features of the SPK3 include Max/Min, Hold, and T1-T2 functions for either IR or ROD mode. The backlit display automatically flips in ROD mode for hanging on duct walls. The hanging hook also keeps the probe in place for hands-free testing.

The SPK3 is priced competitively at $89.00 (suggested trade) and can be found at Fieldpiece distributors.

Fieldpiece Instruments Introduces SCM4 Standalone CO Detector With Field Replaceable Sensor

ANAHEIM, Calif., October 10, 2013– Fieldpiece Instruments, the industry leader in tools and test instruments for HVACR professionals, introduces the SCM4, a new hand-held carbon monoxide detector that’s exceptionally responsive, economical, easy-to-use, and easy-to-handle. Designed for the HVAC field service technician, the SCM4 has an extremely fast reacting electrochemical sensor that is field-replaceable and is designed to perform walk-around tests to quickly help pinpoint sources of dangerous carbon monoxide. Its companion product, the ACM4 Accessory Head, fits on any Fieldpiece meter for quick and easy CO checks using your Fieldpiece stick meter.

The SCM4 displays CO levels from 0 to 2000 PPM (parts per million) and includes both a mutable audio alert and visual LED alert that increase in frequency as CO concentration increases.  The detector allows HVAC technicians to measure ambient carbon monoxide levels and detect possible sources of dangerous CO contamination from furnaces, water heaters, stoves, fireplaces and garages.

“Technicians tell us we’ve got the best CO detector out there because the response rate is so quick,” said Russ Harju, Fieldpiece product manager. “Plus because sensors wear out over time, having a unit with a field-replaceable sensor makes it even more attractive to HVACR professionals.”

The SCM4 is easy to setup and read. The dual-display LCD gives technicians both the real-time PPM reading and the MAX CO detected. The bright blue backlight provides added visibility in dark areas. If erratic CO readings show up on the LCD, or there is no reaction in a known CO area, simply replace the sensor in the field with a Fieldpiece RCM4 Replacement Sensor.

The SCM4 uses the same rugged ABS plastic case found on most other Fieldpiece standalone instruments surrounded by a familiar rubber boot. The ergonomic shape makes it simple to hold when doing a walk-around test and the magnetic hanger makes for easy hands-free testing. The SCM4 uses a standard 9V battery and has Auto Power-Off (APO) after fifteen minutes of inactivity to extend battery life. Technicians can disable APO as needed.  The battery check function allows technicians to see what percentage of battery power remains simply by holding down the MUTE button for three seconds.

The SCM4 and ACM4 are priced competitively at $249.00 and $209.00 (suggested trade) respectively. The RCM4 replacement sensor can be found at Fieldpiece distributors for $159.00 (suggested trade).

Charge TXV Systems Down to 37 Degrees Outside – S365

Service and Charge Air Conditioners When It’s Cold Outside

Fieldpiece Introduces Product to Easily Charge TXV Systems Down to 37° Outside Air Temp

March 1, 2012, Anaheim, Calif. – Fieldpiece’s new S365 Charging Jacket enables HVACR professionals to charge TXV systems all year, even during cold weather conditions. This dramatically extends the length of time technicians can work on these A/C units, which allows contractors to service more customers during the off-season, or early or late in the day.

Before the Charging Jacket, if outside temperatures were below 70°F, a TXV system could not be charged because the cooler air removed too much heat from the condenser coils. The new Charging Jacket wraps around the condenser in a way that tricks the A/C unit to act as if it’s warmer outside than it is – all the way down to 37°F.

“Up to now, HVACR pros weren’t able to charge TXV systems if it was below 70° outside,” said Russell Harju, product manager. “So we devised a way that they can be dependably serviced and charged when it’s cold outside. This gives contractors the ability to service their regular customers in the off-season, so when it gets hot, they can focus on emergency calls and installations.”

The technician simply secures the jacket around the A/C unit, adjusts the exhaust air flow until the proper difference between the high side and low side pressures is reached, and then goes to work once it’s stabilized.

“Being able to service maintenance contracts before the spring/summer rush makes it possible for HVACR pros to do more and make more money,” said Harju. “They can tap into more billable hours because of the extended season, both before and after summer.”

The Charging Jacket is available immediately for $109.00 suggested trade price and can be purchased from a Fieldpiece distributor near you.

SDMN5 Standalone Manometer Offers Precision Measurement of Gas and Static Pressure

BREA, Calif., February 16, 2006 — Fieldpiece Instruments, a leading provider of hand-held instruments for field service HVACR technicians, has introduced model SDMN5 Dual Port Manometer. The SDMN5 is a standalone low-cost solution for gas or static pressure measurement. The SDMN5 is the latest development in the series of standalone products Fieldpiece Instruments provides for the field service tech, most of which are also offered as accessory heads.

The Dual Port Manometer has the ranges to measure gas pressure and the resolution needed to measure static pressure. Ideal for HVACR field service technicians, the SDMN5 can determine if the gas pressure coming into the house or out of the regulator are OK. The SDMN5 measures gas pressure up to 60″ water column (WC) with a resolution of 0.1″ WC. In addition, the unit measures both positive and negative pressure, which is used for measurement on vacuum control lines. The unit will take differential pressure readings and display the difference between P1 and P2 at all times in the lower right corner of the easy-to-read LCD. Four different measurement scales can be used: inches of water column, millimeters of water column, mBar, and PSI.

The SDMN5 also has a zero adjust to zero out the meter in different ambient pressures. It has a hold button to hold the currently displayed reading. The auto-power-off function conserves battery life, but can be disabled if desired.
In the static pressure mode, the unit can measure up to 2″WC with resolution to 0.010″WC, which enables a technician to measure small differences in air (or static) pressure.

“Now any technician can afford to conveniently measure static pressure because he can do it with his gas pressure measuring instrument,” says Rey Harju of Fieldpiece.

The SDMN5 Dual Port Manometer is priced at $139. The SDMN5 is housed in a rugged rubber boot and includes a clear front case, hoses, and a magnetic hanger for hands-free operation.
