What is It?

The Original Stick Digital Multimeter - HS26 - Designed for HVAC/R
The “Original” HS26 Stick Meter is back with the portability, toughness and modular expandability HVAC/R veterans remember. This slim-shaped digital multimeter fits easily in your pocket or on your belt in the included case. Features most of the electrical parameters you use everyday including microamps DC for flame rectifier diode tests and capacitance for motor-run and motor-start capacitors. It’s a manual ranging meter and features a rugged ABS plastic housing with an O-ring to block contaminants, MAX hold, hi-voltage and continuity LEDs and beepers, and auto power-off (APO) to conserve battery life.

How Does it Work?

The HS26 is smaller, simpler and more rugged than its bigger brothers, and still works with all Fieldpiece accessory heads. All Fieldpiece accessory heads slide on the top, enabling the user to test a wide variety of parameters. All this plus the removable tip test leads make safe one-handed testing a snap.  As with all electrical testing, please read the Operator’s Manual and associated safety practices thoroughly before testing and adhere to industry best practices for safety when testing any current carrying device

Selecting Ranges
For DC voltage, set the meter to the VDC parameter instead of VAC (shown below). For all ranges choose a range just above the value you expect. If display reads “OL” (overload), select a higher range. If display shows less than three numbers, select a lower range for better resolution.

Features and Benefits

The HS meter series is unlike any other found in HVAC/R. We incorporate a number of safety features, both those you can and can’t see, into our meters.  In addition, the HS series accepts modular test instrument accessory heads. The HS26 is the original stick meter that started the series off.  While the basic function of the meter is the same, we’ve updated it since its introduction to include a number of features that make the HVAC/R technicians job easier, better and safer.

Modular Expandability
Modular expandability is the ability for accessory heads and meters to change configurations to match the various needs of an HVAC/R technician. Accessory heads (the sensors) send a mV signal, which represents the value of the parameter being tested. Heads can attach directly to the top of the HS26, DL3 data logger, the HG1 and HG2, or EHDL1. They can also plug into any meter with mV ranges using ADLS2 leads with detachable probe tips.

400AAC
Using the included amp clamp accessory, model ACH4, on the 200 mVAC range allows you to read 0-400 amps directly on your meter with 0.1 resolution, 1.0 resolution on the 2000 mVAC range.  Use it with the detachable test leads to remote the amp clamp and test with the blower door closed for more accurate readings.

Microamps DC
For flame rectifier diode testing.

Capacitance
For motor-start and motor-run capacitors. Disconnect the capacitor from power first. Short the terminals to discharge the capacitor. Disconnect any resistors that might be between the terminals of the capacitor.

High Voltage and Continuity Indicators
In any VAC/VDC range, when you touch a voltage greater than 30V, the beeper will beep and the red Hi-V LED will blink. BE CAREFUL! The continuity beeper and green LED tell you if the circuit you’re testing is open or closed.

MAX and Data HOLD
Press MAX to store highest reading on the display.
Press MAX again to return display to real-time reading.
Press HOLD to hold current data on the display.

Silicone Leads with Detachable Probe Tips

Because the wire insulation is silicone the leads will stay flexible in cold weather and will not melt if bumped by a soldering iron. When testing electrical circuits with two hands, there is a risk that a careless mistake may complete a circuit through your body and potentially cause death or injury. Detachable probes tips and the modular design of the HS26 allow you to plug V lead tip into the top of the meter , connect an alligator lead tip to COM and ground, and perform a one-hand test more easily than most any meter on the market.

And More:
  • Rugged ABS case with O-ring to block contaminants.
  • Auto power-off (APO) to conserve battery life
  • Manual ranging for safer testing.

Competitive Advantages

It wasn’t too long ago that the only multimeter you could buy was designed for lab use or an electrician’s meter. Today’s HVAC/R technician can buy meters with functions and features specifically designed for field use. And, they’re more rugged, convenient, and safe. Clips for one-handed testing. Loud BEEPERS and bright LEDS to warn of dangerous voltages, even in noisy environments. Automatic HOLD and MAX so eyes stay focused on the test point. Silicone leads. Manual ranging. Safe like never before.

Plus modular expandability allows you to take a truckload of test instruments to the job in a bag over your shoulder.

The features and benefits are the competitive advantages when it comes to the HS26. Even though it was designed for HVAC/R field service, some electricians tell us it’s what they have in their bag too.

Dual-Temperature Accessory - ATH4

The Fieldpiece Dual-Temperature Accessory, model ATH4, measures two temperatures simultaneously using the included k-type, wrap tab beaded thermocouples. The technology inside the ATH4 provides superior temperature compensation in rapidly changing environments commonly found while performing field service. Use the ATH4 to find Delta T and just about any temperature split you want to measure. Displays T1, T2 and T1-T2 on your Fieldpiece meter, handle or data logger. It is included with the HVAC Guide® System Analyzer to get target superheat and for the Target Evaporator Exit Temperature test. Fieldpiece offers a wide variety of k-type thermocouples for various HVAC specific applications. Use pipe clamp T/Cs with the ATH4 to check for blocked filters. Use wet and dry bulb thermocouples to find target superheat.

Digital Sling Psychrometer Accessory - ARH4

The Fieldpiece model ARH4 Digital Sling Psychrometer and Hygrometer Accessory Head measures both relative humidity and ambient air temperature. It calculates dew point and wet bulb. It’s great for calculating target superheat as well as logging %RH, temp, WB or DP over time. The head converts %RH, ambient temperature, dew point temperature, and wet bulb temperature to a voltage at a rate of 1 %RH or degree to 1mVDC and your reading is displayed on your meter. The ARH4 snaps directly onto Fieldpiece stick meters, data logger, electronic handles and adapters.
