Fieldpiece Instruments Makes A Good Thing Even Better.
New SC67 Clamp Meter Good "All-Around Tool" for HVAC/R
FULLERTON,
Calif. - Fieldpiece Instruments, manufacturer of professional-grade
instruments for field service, has developed a new clamp meter in response
to requests from HVAC technicians for changes to Fieldpiece’s incredibly popular
SC66 clamp meter. Fieldpiece Instruments has consistently shown its commitment
to integrating customers' suggestions in designing new products.
The modifications included in the SC67 were first requested by Jim Elmore of Encompass Mechanical Service, Seattle. "Fieldpiece Instruments didn't even hesitate when I made suggestions about the SC66 that my field service guys felt were needed. I've never had a company react so quickly. Fieldpiece sent me a prototype and then started producing it," said Jim.
The modifications include increasing the temperature range for testing so that the SC67 senses temperatures up to 1000°F. In addition, the DC voltage range goes up to 200VDC. "The SC67 is the only tool I buy now for my main and general troubleshooting of HVAC. I don't need any other tools when I go to a job. I believe in this tool so much that I recommend it to the trade and technical schools I am associated with," added Jim.
Like the SC66, the most important benefit of the SC67 is that it contains a non-contact voltage (NCV) function to warn the user when the NCV tab is close to live AC voltages. When it senses AC voltages down as low as 24VAC, it alerts the user by lighting up a big, bright red LED, AND sounding a loud beeper. Even if the user doesn’t touch the voltage, the NCV function senses the ACV through the air.
In addition to the non-contact voltage indicator, the high-voltage (contact) indicator lights up a RED LED and beeps whenever the technician touches dangerous voltage. For convenience, a GREEN LED lights up when continuity is detected. All three LED functions are supported by a loud beep from the internal beeper.
Another feature of the SC67 is that it solves the test lead storage problem. The test leads wrap around the body of the clamp meter and the probes snap into the back. The test lead wires are insulated with silicone rubber, which withstands temperature extremes much better than vinyl. They are also more flexible than vinyl.
Measurements include volts, amps (200AAC max, best resolution to 0.1 amps), microamps (for flame rectifier diode circuits), temperature, ohms, and MFDs (for motor start and motor run capacitors).
The k-type thermocouple plugs directly into the meter for excellent temperature compensation. The built-in adapter plug is a convenience feature because many technicians lose the adapters.
The SC67, designed in the USA, meets the changing needs of today's field professionals with convenience features like an innovative clamp head that simplifies the often-difficult process of separating wires. Just slide the tab between two wires, twist, and then open the jaws to let the wire in.
"If you are going to carry one meter to the job site, use the SC66 or the SC67. These meters solve more real world problems," said Rey Harju, of Fieldpiece.
The low $139. price for the SC67 and $129. for the SC66, includes the clamp meter, probes, and a nylon case with belt-buckle for easy portability.
