Fieldpack Provides Full HVAC/R Measurement
Capability in a Kit the Size of a Briefcase

New digital multimeter includes autoranging

BREA, Calif., August 28, 2003-- Fieldpiece introduces an eight-pound Fieldpack that contains the instruments and accessory heads an HVAC/R technician needs to perform most of the measurements his job demands. It includes a data logger and a DMM that work with all eight accessory heads, plus a handle that converts each of the accessory heads into a standalone instrument. The pack itself is about the size of a standard briefcase.

“This kit was specially designed for the HVAC/R technician who doesn’t want to make repeated trips back to his truck,” said Rey Harju, President of Fieldpiece. “He carries everything he needs in one hand. There’s even extra space for hand tools and other instruments. Plus, the soft-sided briefcase gives the technician a real professional look."

This ultimate Fieldpack (HS35K31G) contains a data logger to record any parameter measured by any one of the eight accessory heads. The snap-on accessory heads measure air velocity, air temperature, relative humidity, wet bulb, dew point, carbon monoxide, AC current, gas pressure, static pressure, vacuum (for evacuating a system), and microamps for flame rectifier diode circuits. An electronic handle makes every accessory head a standalone instrument.

The kit also includes several thermocouples specially designed for HVAC/R technicians: a pipe clamp thermocouple for taking suction line temperatures, a wet bulb thermocouple with a “sock” and alligator clip, and a beaded thermocouple with alligator clip. The alligator clips keep the thermocouples in place during testing. All have a “wrap-tab” plug that makes it easy to store the thermocouple wire.

The kit also contains silicone test leads with removable tips that enable the technician to “remote” the ACH current clamp accessory head to measure hard to reach test points. A pair of alligator clips enable the user to safely connect test leads to test points. And all the special components needed to connect to flame safety circuits are included.

The HS35 stick meter itself is a complete digital multimeter that’s built for safety. This new meter features autoranging that automatically changes range for best resolution. It measures volts, ohms, temperature, and capacitance for motor start/run. For safety, it includes a non-contact voltage indicator (beeper and LED) to let the user know when he's near AC voltage. It works down to 24 VAC for themistat wire. The meter also contains a high voltage indicator (beeper and LED) that warns the user when he’s in contact with a potentially dangerous voltage. A magnetic strip on the back of the meter enables the technician to attach it to a piece of equipment and free his hands. The magnet is strong enough to hold both the meter and an attached accessory head.

For hard to reach measurements, the technician can “remote” an accessory head by removing the probe tips from the leads and connecting to the head.

The kit (HS35K31G) is available immediately for $1,299 trade price and can be purchased from a Fieldpiece distributor near you.
