The SOX2 gives technicians accurate combustion testing, measuring flue gas %O2, temperature, and calculating %CO2 and % Excess Air. The SOX2 tests the three most common fuel types for residential and light commercial combustion equipment: Natural gas, Oil #2, and Propane. “For most field technicians, this is all they need,” said Rey Harju, Fieldpiece President. “Full-on analyzers include extras that don’t do them much good.” Most technicians don’t need a full-on combustion analysis to tune a system. A majority of heating appliance manufacturers provide targets for %O2, temperature, and %CO2 in flue gas. Some are now including targets for % Excess Air. The SOX2 gives them these measurements without the costly extras of full-on combustion analyzers. On the occasion a technician needs a full-on analysis, he can go to the Fieldpiece website and download our free Combustion Efficiency spreadsheet. Properly tuned gas combustion equipment consumes less fuel (lower energy bills for the technician’s customer), lasts longer, and produces little or no carbon monoxide or soot. The SOX2 switches between natural gas, oil#2, and propane fuel types with the push of a button. The differentiation between fuel types provides a more accurate calculation of %CO2. The SOX2 measures percent oxygen (%O2) and stack temperature by inserting the included pump and ATBF1 high-temperature thermocouple into the flue. Then it calculates the resulting percent carbon dioxide (%CO2) and excess air (%EA) present during combustion. The H/Min/Max button holds the minimum, maximum or current reading so the technician doesn’t have to keep his eye on the meter all the time. He can even hang the meter with the attached magnet to concentrate on getting the sample. Other features include a bright blue backlight that helps the technician easily read the display in poorly lit areas. The auto power off (APO) helps extend battery life by turning the meter of after 15 minutes of inactivity. The included ATBF1 thermocouple takes accurate temperature readings up to 900°F and comes with clips to attach to the pump probe. The included stack pump and water trap, with replacement “O”-ring and filters help ensure consistent and reliable measurements by protecting the sensor from moisture and contaminants. The SOX2 also comes with a small screwdriver for field calibration of the thermocouple, thermocouple clips, and our ANC1 carrying case. The SOX2 is priced competitively at $239 (suggested trade).
