What is It?

The AMN2 is a manometer accessory head for use with our modular multimeters (DMMs) and instruments. It measures gas pressure with enough resolution to measure static pressure. The AMN2 includes a zero adjust and the Auto Power-Off (APO) function to conserve battery life. Disable APO for data logging.  The AMN2 measures pressure between -60inWC and 60inWC (inches of water column). Take static pressure measurements using the resolution mode of 0.01inWC.

How Does it Work?

Use the AMN2 to measure gas pressure or static pressure.  Simply connect to COM and Volts jacks on your meter using any Fieldpiece test leads with removable probe tips. For Fieldpiece “stick-style” meters, adapters and handles, slide the head directly onto the unit.  Select the mVDC range on your meter.  Press the ZERO Set button on the face of the AMN2. ZERO while the tube is disconnected to calibrate the meter to ambient pressure.  Connect the hose to the pressure source to get the gauge pressure relative to the ambient or ZERO pressure.  Note: If you are in an environment where the temperature is noticeably changing while you are taking your reading, disconnect the meter from the hoses and ZERO it relative to ambient pressure before each reading.

Auto Power-Off is helpful for conserving the battery; but if you are data logging with Fieldpiece model DL3, you will want to disable this feature.  To disable the auto-power-off, remove the rubber covering and flip the switch below to the off position.

Checking Gas Pressure on a Regulator
Measure gas pressure and test regulators quickly with the AMN2 manometer.

  1. Screw the brass fitting into the pressure port on the regulator.
  2. Put unit into operation (i.e. turn on the furnace and have furnace ignite, as if running it in normal operation.)
  3. This will give you the pressure coming out of the regulator.
  4. If you suspect high or low inlet pressure into the regulator, hook the manometer up to the inlet port in the same manner you connect to the outlet port. If you have a dual-port manometer (model ADMN2 or SDMN5), you can check both the inlet and the outlet pressures simultaneously and see the pressure drop across the regulator.
  5. See manufacturer's specification for the specifications on target inlet and outlet pressure for a given regulator or piece of combustion equipment.

Field Pressure Calibration
Press and hold the ZERO Set button on the face of the AMN2.  Disconnect the hose from the pressure port to properly calibrate to ambient pressure.  To take static pressure measurements quickly across a blower as in the diagram example, press ZERO Set button while you are connected to the pressure source before the blower then connect to the pressure source after the blower and take your reading.

Resolution Modes (0.1 and 0.01)
There are two modes of resolution on the AMN2. The 0.1 mode is useful for most applications. When measuring low pressures, 0.01 will likely be the best mode for meaningful testing. The most common circumstance for 0.01 mode is measuring static pressure across a blower. Only when using 0.01 mode, the display of your meter will show the true measurement X 10. So if the true measurement is -0.02, your meter will show -0.2. This is done to optimize resolution.

Using the RMA316 Manometer Adapter
Used for 5/16" pressure outlet ports.

  1. Shut off main gas supply to furnace.
  2. Move the gas valve switch to "OFF" position.
  3. Use a 3/32" hex wrench to loosen the outlet pressure tap screw. Rotate screw counterclockwise one revolution to open.
  4. Connect the AMN2 tubing to the smaller (3/16") end of the adapter and the other (5/16") end of the adapter into the of the adapter tube.
  5. Slide the 5/16" adapter tube over the outlet pressure boss (port) to seal. Overlap the pressure boss by at least 3/8" to prevent leakage.

Features and Benefits

The AMN2 Manometer Accessory Head offers several features and benefits to field technicians:
  • Works with any Fieldpiece expandable instrument or handle or any DMM with mVDC ranges.
  • Measure gas pressure on 3/16” and 5/16” regulator ports.
  • Enough resolution and sensitivity to measure static pressure.
  • ZERO Set on face of instrument.
  • Auto Power-Off (APO) for data logging pressure.
  • Low battery LED indicator.

Competitive Advantages

The modular design of the AMN2 gives it a distinct advantage over other dual-port manometers in the field.  Remoting the AMN2 with our detachable test leads allows you to measure  and log pressure readings in hard to reach places.  The included 3/16” to 5/16” adapters allow you to measure gas pressure on more makes and models of gas appliances as well.
