Mini Clamp Meter for HVAC/R - Compact and Affordable - SC44 The SC44 Mini Clamp Meter for HVAC/R is a basic, affordable clamp-on meter designed for HVAC/R field service. It measures Amps AC, Volts AC, Volts DC, resistance, continuity, and includes a diode check. A built-in Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) sensor allows you to test thermostats and circuits to see if they’re hot or not. The range button (Looks like a two ring bulls eye) switches the SC44 between a manual ranging meter and an auto ranger. The small size fits easily in your hand. Keep it in glove box as a backup meter or hang it on your belt to take measurements in tight places. The SC44 is Cat.III 600V rated.
How Does it Work?
Check to see if the circuit is hot using the Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) button. Use the wire grabbing jaw to easily separate wires when taking current readings. Switch to AAC to test. Select any other range and use the included test leads to measure.
Selecting Ranges For DC voltage, set the meter to the VDC parameter instead of VAC (shown below). For all ranges choose a range just above the value you expect. If display reads “OL” (overload), select a higher range. If display shows less than three numbers, select a lower range for better resolution.

Features and Benefits
While this is a basic HVAC/R multimeter, it is backed by the Fieldpiece name. We designed it to be as durable as our big meters during field service calls. It also gives you the choice of manual or auto ranging with the push of a button. The built-in non-contact voltage sensor range works on thermostats and larger lines. It’s compact, easy to use and comes with a Cat. III 600V rating unlike many similarly priced meters.
Non-contact Voltage With the NCV tab on the tip of the clamp close to an AC voltage, press and hold the NCV button. The NCV LED will light with an analog feel and the beeper will beep. The closer you get to AC voltage, the louder the beep. The NCV function is sensitive enough to detect 24VAC on thermostats (24V to 600V, 50Hz to 60Hz).
400AAC Using the attached amp clamp, read 0-400 amps directly on your meter with 0.1 resolution.
Wire Grabbing Jaw The amp clamp is shaped like a jaw to make grabbing a single wire easy using only one hand.
Hold The HOLD button is easily pressed with your thumb while holding the mini clamp meter naturally in your hand. It holds any reading on your SC44 so you can concentrate on the test points and look at the LCD after you’ve disconnected.
And More:
Volts AC.
Volts DC.
Resistance (Ohms).
Continuity.
Diode Test.
Rugged ABS case.
Ergonomic shape fits naturally in your hand.
Auto power-off (APO) to conserve battery life.
Under 8” tall.
Competitive Advantages
The SC44, while a basic mini clamp-on meter, it’s a solid performer and built exclusively for the work you do. Other small meters often lack the durability, ranges, ratings and resolution you need in a good backup meter. Like all of our clamp meters, the SC44 includes the built-in Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) tester, to save you time during a service call and space in your pocket or tool bag.

The SC77 is one of our most popular digital multimeters for a reason. It has virtually every parameter for electrical and thermal HVAC/R testing in one meter. This auto ranger includes a host of safety features including a high-voltage LED and beeper, a continuity warning, push button non-contact voltage (NCV), a lead holder with detachable leads and alligator probe tips for easy one-handed testing. As far as ranges go, it has temperature, capacitance, microamps DC for flame diode tests, and everyday electrical ranges for HVAC/R. Not to mention technicians tell us it one of the most durable meters in the industry. Rivaled only by our stick meters, the SC77 is also one of their top picks from Fieldpiece.
Our top of the line True RMS Stick Meter, the HS36 includes the ranges you use everyday for HVAC/R field service plus includes a bright blue backlight and True RMS. Like the rest of the HS30 series, the HS36 comes equipped with a magnetic hanger, along with detachable silicone test leads and alligator clip probe tips for remote and easy one-handed testing, as well as the full set of built-in safety features. This auto-ranging stick meter also includes a bar graph on the LCD for an analog feel. Technicians who prefer our expandable stick meters tell us this is the best digital multimeter for HVAC/R field Service.
The ADK7 deluxe silicone lead is the optimal way to test most electrical parameters you run into during field service. The kit includes the ADSL2 silicone leads and ASA2 alligator leads plus our all new RCT2 "Molex"-style probe tips. HVAC techs often remove the black probe tip (common) and insert the black alligator lead for an extended reach from ground. When used with our stick meters, the Volts (red) probe tip is inserted into the top of the meter for easy one-handed testing. Use both alligator extension to perform “no-hands” tests. Silicone test leads deliver better performance in temperature extremes than test leads insulated with vinyl.
The ANC3 Large Briefcase-Style Instrument Bag is our top of the line instrument case. Combined with our modularly expandable instruments and accessories, the ANC3 can haul a service truck full of tools to your job, over your shoulder. It has 14 pockets in all. It holds most any combination of your Fieldpiece gear: 3 meters and 10 accessory head instruments with room for plenty more, or, put in 6 standalones and their accessories, 2 meters and more. The combinations are almost endless. One thing’s for sure, you can fit the test instruments you need to do the whole job easier, better and faster with the ANC3 over your shoulder. Features include rugged nylon construction, padding, durable pockets inside and out, a rugged zippers and a shoulder strap. Comes standard with our big Fieldpacks and doubles as a great laptop briefcase.
