What is It?

Classic Style Digital Multimeter for HVAC/R - Expandable with All of the electrical Basics - LT83A
The LT83A is a basic classic style multimeter at a great price.  It’s a manual ranging meter that includes common HVAC/R electrical parameters. Add our optional detachable test lead set, and the LT83A works with our accessory heads to test non-electrical parameters too. The LT83A meter measures voltage, resistance, amps, continuity and more. Test leads store in the meter body along with the tilt stand and magnetic hanger. The body is constructed of durable ABS plastic and a blue backlight makes the large LCD even more visible. It’s a good, solid meter and a real value.

How Does it Work?

The LT83A is a manual ranging DMM that measures volts, amps, resitance, continuity, batteries 1.5 volts and under, and has a diode test. Use the MIN/MAX function to record highs and lows.  It’s easy to operate and with our deluxe silicone lead set model ADK7 (optional), works with Fieldpiece accessory head test instruments.

Selecting Ranges
For DC voltage, set the meter to the VDC parameter instead of VAC as shown below. For all ranges and functions choose a range just above the value you expect. If display reads "OL" (overload), select a higher range. If display shows less than three numbers, select a lower range for better resolution.

Voltage

LT83A-Volts

AC Amps (throught clamp - optional)

LT83A-ACampsACH4

Optional:  With the purchase of the ACH4 amp clamp and our deluxe silicone lead set measure 0-400 AAC on the LT83 A.   For all other accessory head instruments, turn to the millivolts DC ranges as shown below on the LT83A.

Diode Test

LT83A-diode

To check a diode, select the range with the diode and continuity symbols as shown.

Millivotls DC (using detachable test leads - optional)

LT83A-mVDC-heads

AC Amps (through meter)

LT83A-10Amps

Resistance and Continuity

LT83A-ohmsCont

To check continuity, select the range with the diode and continuity symbols as shown.  To measure resistance, select the range just above the value you expect to read.

Features and Benefits

While the LT83A is a basic meter out of the box, it is designed specifically for HVAC/R field service, and offers even more features and benefits with optional accessories.

Works with Fieldpiece Accessory Heads
There is a Fieldpiece accessory head available for just about any job. There are heads to measure temperature, superheat, subcooling, RH%, wet bulb, dew point, vacuum (microns of mercury), manometer (inches of water column), amps AC&DC, high voltage, CO, %CO2, air velocity, and many more. Simply purchase an ADK7 Deluxe Silicone Lead Kit and measure more parameters with your LT 83A and corresponding accessory head instruments.

Continuity Indicator
The continuity beeper tells you if a circuit is open or closed.

400AAC
Using optional detachable test leads and accessory head amp clamp ACH4 in line, read 0-400 amps directly on your meter.

Microamps DC - Flame Rectification Tests
The most common ‘no heat” call has to do with a malfunctioning flame sensing diode.  Simply turn the meter to microamps DC, hook up, and see if the flame sensing rod is functioning properly.

Optional - Silicone Leads with Detachable Probe Tips
Because the wire insulation is silicone, the leads stay flexible in cold weather and will not melt if bumped by a soldering iron. When testing electrical circuits with two hands, there is a risk that a careless mistake may complete a circuit through your body and potentially cause death or injury. Use the either probe clip on rubber boot to connect and firmly hold the V lead in place, detach the COM probe tip, connect an alligator lead tip to COM and ground, and perform a one-hand test more easily than most meters on the market. Built-in lead storage makes it easy to keep everything together from job to job.

Tilt Stand and Magnetic Hanger
One thing we hear from technicians every day is how much they enjoy the magnetic hanger because it keeps the meter out of the way while testing. The LT17A includes the magnet and a tilt stand to give you a choice in the way you want to use it.

Bright Blue Backlight
Easily read the display in overcast conditions or in dimly lit areas.

MAX/MIN hold
Record the minimum or maximum reading during a measurement. To exit the MIN/MAX function, hold the button for more than 2 seconds

And More:
  • Volts AC.
  • Volts DC.
  • Resistance (Ohms).
  • Diode Test
  • Rugged ABS case with rubber boot.
  • Classic design that still fits naturally in your hand.
  • Auto power-off (APO) to conserve battery life.

Competitive Advantages

The real competitive advantage of the of LT83A is that it is a great meter at a great price.  Add to that the optional capability of expanding the meter with our accessory head instruments and amp clamp, and you’ve got a real value. It makes a solid backup meter and with the optional accessories, a solid performer in the field.

Classic Style Digital Multimeter with Temperature - LT17A

The LT17A is the classic style meter the boss calls the biggest “Bang for the Buck”.  He’s got a point.  This manual ranger covers most of the parameters and ranges you need for most HVAC/R applications.  The LT17A meter measures current, resistance, voltage, capacitance, frequency, continuity, and temperature. Test leads store in the meter body and, with the probe tips removed, connect the LT17A to Fieldpiece accessory heads. The body is made out of durable ABS plastic and comes with a bright blue backlight for poorly lit test areas. Get great accuracy using the included k-type thermocouple and an easily accessible temperature calibration pot.

400AAC Amp Clamp Accessory – ACH4

The ACH4 current clamp is a small size accessory head for quickly reading up to 400 AC amps. The new claw feature at the top of the clamp allows for quickly picking out the wire you need to measure and isolating it in the clamp. Once the current carrying conductor is isolated, the amperage is converted to mVAC for reading directly on the meter. The ACH4 works with the Fieldpiece “Stick” meter, EHDL1 Electronic Handle, DL3 Data Logger, the HVAC Guide® System Analyzer or any other digital multimeter (with mVAC range) connected by Fieldpiece ADLS2 detachable silicone leads or AHDL1 handle adapter.

Deluxe Silicone Test Lead Kit - ADK7

The ADK7 deluxe silicone lead is the optimal way to test most electrical parameters you run into during field service.  The kit includes the ADSL2 silicone leads and ASA2 alligator leads plus RCT2 probe tips.  HVAC techs often remove the black probe tip (common) and insert the black alligator lead for an extended reach from ground. When used with our stick meters, the Volts (red) probe tip is inserted into the top of the meter for easy one-handed testing. Use both alligator extension to perform “no-hands” tests.  Silicone test leads deliver better performance in temperature extremes than test leads insulated with vinyl.
