What is It?
Classic Style Digital Multimeter with Temp, MFD, Microamps, Frequency and Backlight - The “Biggest Bang for Your Buck” - LT17A The LT17A is the classic style meter the boss calls the biggest “Bang for the Buck”. He’s got a point. This manual ranger covers most of the parameters and ranges you need for most HVAC/R applications. The LT17A meter measures current, resistance, voltage, capacitance, frequency, continuity, and temperature. Test leads store in the meter body and, with the probe tips removed, connect the LT17A to Fieldpiece accessory heads. The body is made out of durable ABS plastic and comes with a bright blue backlight for poorly lit test areas. Get great accuracy using the included k-type thermocouple and an easily accessible temperature calibration pot.
How Does it Work?
The LT17A is a manual ranging DMM that comes with an amp clamp and k-type thermocouple. Use the MIN/MAX function to record highs and lows. The continuity beeper tells you if a circuit is open or closed. Operation of the LT17A is easy. Simply select a range and test.
Selecting Ranges For DC voltage, set the meter to the VDC parameter instead of VAC as shown below. For all ranges and functions choose a range just above the value you expect. If display reads "OL" (overload), select a higher range. If display shows less than three numbers, select a lower range for better resolution.

AC Amps / Accessory Heads

Connect the included Fieldpiece accessory head model ACH4 s to the LT17A using the included deluxe silicone leads. Make sure the mter is on the 200mVAC range. Read 0 to 400AAC directly on the LCD. For all other Fieldpiece accessory heads switch the meter to 200mVDC or 2000mVDC range to measure other parameters.

|
Resistance and Continuity Beeper

To check continuity select the range with the continuity symbol as show. To measure resistance, select the range just above the value you expect to read.
|
Temperature

Disconnect test leads from voltage before plugging thermocouple in. Insure the temperature being measured is stable. Maintain good contact between the thermocouple and what's being measured.

Features and Benefits
Designed specifically for HVAC/R field service, the LT17A offers specific features and benefits to HVAC/R field service pros including:
Works with Fieldpiece Accessory Heads There is a Fieldpiece accessory head available for just about any job. There are heads to measure temperature, superheat, subcooling, RH%, wet bulb, dew point, vacuum (microns of mercury), manometer (inches of water column), amps AC&DC, high voltage, CO, %CO2, air velocity, and many more.
Continuity Indicator If you were doing lab testing, these features would probably drive you crazy. We’ve heard from more than one HVAC/R veteran that these features really remind you of what you’re doing and they’ve avoided potentially dangerous situations in the field. The Hi-V LED and beeper let you know when you’ve hooked up to a circuit over 30V. The continuity LED and beeper tells you if a circuit is open or closed. 400AAC Using the detachable test leads and the accessory head amp clamp, read 0-400 amps directly on your meter.
Capacitance (MFD) Measure microfarads on motor-run and motor-start capacitors using this range. Disconnect the capacitor from power first. Short the terminals to discharge the capacitor. Disconnect any resistors that might be between the terminals of the capacitor and measure to check for degradation.
Temperature Take ambient air or refrigeration line temperatures and more with the built-in K-type port and the included ATB1 wrap tab thermocouple. Add a wet sock (saturated tissue or a shoelace to take wet bulb temperatures. The built-in temperature junction offers great temperature compensation for more accurate and faster measurements,
Microamps DC - Flame Rectification Tests The most common ‘no heat” call has to do with a malfunctioning flame sensing diode. Simply turn the meter to microamps DC, hook up, and see if the flame sensing rod is functioning properly.
Frequency Measure from 10Hz to 40kHz using this range with 1 Hz resolution.
Silicone Leads with Detachable Probe Tips Because the wire insulation is silicone, the leads stay flexible in cold weather and will not melt if bumped by a soldering iron. When testing electrical circuits with two hands, there is a risk that a careless mistake may complete a circuit through your body and potentially cause death or injury. Use the either probe clip on rubber boot to connect and firmly hold the V lead in place, detach the COM probe tip, connect an alligator lead tip to COM and ground, and perform a one-hand test more easily than most meters on the market. Built-in lead storage makes it easy to keep everything together from job to job. Tilt Stand and Magnetic Hanger One thing we hear from technicians every day is how much they enjoy the magnetic hanger because it keeps the meter out of the way while testing. The LT17A includes the magnet and a tilt stand to give you a choice in the way you want to use it. Bright Blue Backlight Easily read the display in overcast conditions or in dimly lit areas. MAX/MIN hold Record the minimum or maximum reading during a measurement. To exit the MIN/MAX function, hold the button for more than 2 seconds And More:
- Volts AC.
- Volts DC.
- Resistance (Ohms).
- Diode Test
- Rugged ABS case with rubber boot.
- Even though it’s a classic style meter it still fits naturally in your hand.
- Auto power-off (APO) to conserve battery life.
Competitive Advantages
The testing capability packed into this classic style meter is its main competitive advantage. In addition to all of the ranges, it has direct temperature measurement and it works with all of our accessory head instruments to make it one of the most complete classic style meters available for HVAC/R. Add to that the fact that the classic design still fits naturally in your hand and comes standard with a rugged rubber boot. We think the boss got it right when he said this is the “Biggest Bang for The Buck”.

Classic Style Digital Multimeter with Phase Rotation - LT16A
The LT16A is a classic style multimeter with True RMS meter and phase rotation. This manual ranger covers the electrical parameters you need for HVAC/R and, with detachable test leads, works with our accessory heads to test non-electrical parameters too. The LT16A meter measures current, resistance, voltage, capacitance, frequency, continuity and more. Test leads store in the meter body along with the tilt stand and magnetic hanger. The body is constructed of durable ABS plastic and a blue backlight makes the large LCD even more visible. We like to call this the HVAC/R detective’s meter. It’s the meter for technicians that like to search down, figure out and solve electrical mysteries on a system.

600 AAC / ADC Current Clamp Accessory – ACDC6
The ACDC6 is a high-current AC / DC Current Clamp Accessory that gives technicians more flexibility when testing line current. Measures up to 600A AC or DC. The clamp enables most multimeters to measure current without breaking the circuit. The jaw opens to 1.18 inches (3 cm). A coiled cable keeps clutter out of the testing area, Quickly zero out the clamp using the adjustable dial on the face. Use with any multimeter with industry standard Volt and COM jacks and mV AC and DC ranges. Green mechanical contractors tell us they are also using the clamp to measure high-current lines on integrated solar panel powered HVAC / hot water systems.

Superheat and Subcooling Accessory for Air Conditioning – ASX14
The Fieldpiece Superheat and Subcooling Accessory for Air Conditioning, model ASX14, measures suction line, or low side, line temperature and pressure. It then calculates actual superheat in real time using built in P/T charts. It also measures liquid line, or high side, line temperature and pressure, and calculates actual subcooling. Use it to get actual superheat on R-22 and R-410A fixed orifice systems and actual subcooling on TXV / TEV regulated systems. Use the “T” fitting to charge to actual superheat or subcooling by putting the ASX14 in-line between your refrigerant bottle and the system.
