What is It?

Dual-Display Mini Clamp Meter for HVAC/R– Read Amps and Volts at the Same Time -  model SC52
Read amps and volts at the same time with the Dual-Display Mini Clamp Meter for HVAC/R, model SC52. Measure any other range on the meter simultaneously with an amp measurement. The SC52 is compact measuring only about 8-inches, easy to use and includes many of the ranges you use everyday during HVAC/R field service.  It includes the ranges for flame diode rectification and a diode test for checking circuits, as well as built-in safety features like non-contact voltage, a hold button and a continuity tester with audible alarm.

How Does it Work?

The SC52 is an auto ranging DMM that with a dedicated amp clamp and display, as well as a display for the rest of the ranges on the meter. When you select a range and hook up to the circuit, the SC52’s bottom display automatically includes symbols or proper decimal places for the range you are testing.  If you are out of the given range on this meter you will receive and “OL” message.  The push button non-contact voltage feature allows you to determine whether a line is hot or not right on the meter.

Selecting Ranges
The following is a look at all of the functions found the SC52 Dual Display DMM for HVAC/R. For DC voltage, set the meter to the VDC parameter instead of VAC (shown below).

Features and Benefits

The SC52 is unique.  Not in that it has a dual-display, but in the fact that it has a dual-display and it was made for the work you do, the way you do it. It includes features and benefits for HVAC/R that really stand out:.

Dual-Display
The SC52 display allows you to read amperage while testing any other function on the dial. More tests at one time means the job gets done right and the job gets done faster,

Non-contact Voltage
With the NCV tab on the tip of the clamp close to an AC voltage, press and hold the NCV button. The NCV LED will light with an analog feel and the beeper will beep. The closer you get to AC voltage, the louder the beep. The NCV function is sensitive enough to detect 24VAC on thermostats (24V to 600V, 50Hz to 60Hz).

400AAC
Using the built-in amp clamp, read 0-400 amps directly on your meter with 0.1 resolution.

Microamps DC - Flame Rectification Tests
The most common ‘no heat” call has to do with a malfunctioning flame sensing diode.  Simply turn the SC52 to microamps DC, hook up, and see if the flame sensing rod is functioning properly.

Wire Grabbing Jaw
The amp clamp is shaped like a jaw to make grabbing a single wire easy using only one hand.

Hold
The HOLD button is easily pressed with your thumb while holding the mini clamp meter naturally in your hand. It holds any reading on your SC52 so you can concentrate on the test points and look at the LCD after you’ve disconnected.

And More:
  • Volts AC.
  • Volts DC.
  • Resistance (Ohms).
  • Diode Test
  • Continuity.
  • Rugged ABS case.
  • Ergonomic shape fits naturally in your hand.
  • Auto power-off (APO) to conserve battery life.
  • Compact - under 8” tall.

Competitive Advantages

The SC52 has features and benefits that rival many full-size clamp-on multimeters it also has safety features to help protect you during field service. The built-in non-contact voltage sensor (NCV) sensor tells you if a line is hot or not before you work on it.  The continuity beeper tells you if a circuit is open or closed. The hold button on the side of the SC52 allows you to concentrate on the test point, hold the reading and then look at the display after you’ve disconnected. Safer, a dual-display for faster testing, flame rectification and other HVAC/R ranges, all in a compact meter - it all makes the SC52 a solid choice for field service technicians.
